VERB




A verb is a word which describes the action in a sentences.(The word that is doing something)

  1. Most people sleep at night.
  2. 'Walk, don't run!' says the teacher.
  3. Adele ate her lunch, then played piano.
  4. Will you remember school when you grow up?
  5. That burglar alarm has been ringing for 10 minutes, I will call the police.
  6. I play football.
  7. They skip quickly.
  8. We eat pizza.
  9. Bieber is seven today.


There are 3 types of verb.

  • Action verb
  • Linking verb
  • Helping verb

LINKING VERB.

A linking verb links the subject to a word that either
describes the subject or gives the subject another name.
It states that something ''is'' or ''exists''.

A verb is a linking verb if it can replace one of the verbs 
of being (am, is, are, was, were) and make sense.

  1. We were nervous.
  2. The soup tastes delicious.
  3. Brad is an author.
  4. Angelina looked sad.

Adjectives usually used to describe a word or thing.

On the other sight, Adjectives also can be used to:
  • A word that tells us more about a noun. (By "noun" we include pronouns and noun phrases.)
  • "Qualifies" or "modifies" a noun (a big dog).
  • Used before a noun (I like Chinese food) or after certain verbs (It is hard).
  • Often use two or more adjectives together (a beautiful young French lady).

NOUNS

What is a 'nouns'?



You have probably learnt the rhyme, “A noun is the name of a person, place or thing.” This is quite helpful to a point, but as you know by now there are different kinds of noun!






Common nouns are the names of things in general, such as cat, dog, road, city, skirt, colour etc.


For examples:






A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place or thing, such as Kate, Billy, Manchester, Thames, Rover etc. All proper nouns start with a capital letter.

A collective noun is the name given to a group of things, for example a flock of birds or a herd of cows.


For examples:







An abstract noun is something you can’t see, hear, touch or taste. These can be emotions (happiness, grief) or states (peace, quiet).
